Subjects with diabetes suffer a proportionately higher burden of ischemic cardiovascular disease (CVD) and develop an accelerated progression of cardiovascular complications. Therefore, innovative biomarkers and therapies are desperately needed in subjects with diabetes to reduce the development (atherosclerosis) and outcomes of ischemic CVD (myocardial injury and heart failure).
